The Andromeda Galaxy, Messier 31, M31, or NGC 224, is the nearest spiral galaxy to our Milky Way galaxy. It is named after the princess Andromeda in Greek mythology. Our Milky Way Galaxy and Andromeda are on a collision course and are expected to collide in 3.75 billion years, eventually merging to form a giant elliptical galaxy. It is located in the constellation Andromeda and is approximately 2,500,000 light years from Earth.
